Free Weights
Find all the information you need concerning the best wrist weights to use for any situation, be it running, light jogging, or simply to workout.
Free weights and hand weights are very similar, in fact often times they are confused amongs the laypeople. Free weights generally refers to those dumbbell weights you find in the gym, covering the entire range of weights going from 2lbs to 100+lbs per weight. Now free weights are typically what is found in home gyms and professionnal gyms, and come in various shapes and sizes. As mentionned, dumbbells are the most common type of free weights found on the market, but they also include kettle weights and any other shape of weight which can be handheld. Our aim today is to focus on the dumbbells, as these are the ones we have tried and would like to share our experience about.
While you may store them on a rack, we stack our free weights directly on the ground, from the left to the right going from the lowest weight to the heaviest. Now there is a wide variety of free weights on the market, some of which are adjustable and others which have fixed weights that cannot be modified. While adjustability may seem alluring at first, we prefer the convenience of quickly being able to switch weights without having to assemble them manually, especially during the heart of a workout where time and energy is to be monitored and optimized.
We prefer by far the free weights that have a bigger handle bar, since this fits the natural grip of the hand better, which becomes increasingly important as the weight goes up. Beyond that, the stainless handle bar with the black cushiony weight plates are definately our favorites, although they do figure in the more expensive side of the spectrum of their kind.
One last thing we would like to tell you about free weights is that if with the right workout program, any and almost every muscle can be worked out with them, making these weights the end all be all of all workout equipment. We are pleased to use circuit training, adding up resistance using these dumbbells as we see fit, according to our goals at the time. Free weights will allow you to work towards fat loss or muscle gain, or simply getting that toned up look, which provides incredible flexibility in the end, and ends up being much much cheaper than a gym membership or even a professionnel home gym, which can cost in the thousands sometimes. Having tried both the gym and the home gym approach, I can say I’m never returning to a gym membership now.
